What tasks are dogs trained to do?

+
Our service dogs are trained to perform tasks that mitigate the specific symptoms of a veteran's disability. Common tasks include waking a handler from night terrors, interrupting anxiety and panic episodes, providing deep pressure therapy, creating space in crowded areas, retrieving dropped items, bracing for balance, opening and closing doors, and standing watch behind their handler in public.

Can I use my dog?

+
Yes — in many cases. If you already have a dog with the right temperament, age, and health, we offer an Apply for Training program to work toward service-dog certification. Not every dog is suited for service work, so we begin with an evaluation. Apply through our Apply for Training page to get started.

Do I qualify?

+
Generally, applicants must be a U.S. military veteran with a service-connected disability such as PTSD, TBI, or a mobility impairment. You must be able to participate in the placement and training process and provide a stable home for the dog. See our How to Qualify page for full criteria.

How much does it cost?

+
Nothing. Placements with Ketchum's Got Your Six are provided at no cost to the veteran. Training, supplies, and ongoing support are funded entirely by donors, sponsors, and community fundraisers like our Annual Run/Walk.
